After the relatively small turnout for the first CRUISE NIGHT of the season, some people believed it might have had something to do with the events of September 11th. Other people thought it might have had to do with the cool temperatures. But in the last few weeks spring turned into summer, and with it, hordes of people began to come out to the event which really kicks off a season of downtown Jackson activities.
With the June CRUISE NIGHT also begins other DDA sponsored events such as Tuesday''''s lunch hour PICNIC IN THE PARK and Friday evening`s VIBE @ 5 (except when the monthly CRUISE NIGHTS occur). In addition to DDA events, there is RACE WEEK which takes place between July 19 and 28, and of course, the two day SUMMERFEST which seems to close the summer and is held the August 30 and 31 this year.
And while most of these events provide opportunities to spend money on such things as craft and food vendors, and the SUMMERFEST carnival rides, each includes free entertainment and activities. For a complete update, check out the JXN Michigan Calendar of Events. For further details, call the DDA at (517) 7884355.
