For only the second time in seventeen years of competition, The Jackson Citizen Patriot did not win the media class of the Snowflake Chili Cook-Off. Perhaps this will finally dismiss the rumor that the contest is "fixed", as The Jackson Citizen Patriot is also one of the main sponsors.

This year it was Jackson Magazine who won the media class for having the best chili. Funny though, as there where no members of the magazine on hand to participate in the chili making. Instead, it was Jackson City Manager Warren Renaldo and other members of the city government including city councilman Jerry Ludwig, his son and rookie councilman Bill Mure who did the cooking.

Besides the Jackson Citizen Patriot and Jackson Magazine, other competitors in the media class included JTV-17 and Jackson Radio Works.

Part of the fun of entering this competition is creating imaginative themes and booths such as "Nuclear Chili", "America`s Most Wanted Chili", "Emergency Room Chili" and "Walk the Plank Chili". After all, the entry fees and proceeds from this event go to local scholarships.

And no matter who won, this annual event was really more fun for both the entrants and the thousands of people who attended and enjoyed sampling the different recipes of both chili and salsa than the final outcome. But the sampling also carried a price. No, I`m not talking about the 50 cent per ticket price which would get you a taste, I`m speaking about the heartburn that would many times ensue afterwards!
