To most, Memorial weekend signals the beginning of summer. But in Jackson, it`s the Rose Parade that welcomes in the summer season. And, yes I know, "What summer?" Well, at least it didn`t rain.
The annual parade began as it usually does around 1:00pm at the west end of the downtown loop. The Shriners began the celebration with their collection of uniforms, clowns and mini-bikes running in circles.
From that point, over a hundred entries passed down Michigan Avenue including Rose City Queen Heather Zalewski and the runner-ups, the Civil War Re-enactors, Body Building winners Mr. and Ms. Rose City, The Boy Scouts, antiques automobiles (including a restored `37 State Police Cruiser) and several area school bands. Even the CRIMEFIGHTER CORPS was on hand to take a stroll down Michigan. And despite the cool, cloudy weather, over 15,000 people attended.
Among the floats were entries by The Elks, Ganton`s Retirement Home and Foote Hospital. All three local Police Forces were on hand, as well as the Jackson Chamber of Commerce with Jackson`s mascot "ROSIE".
Also on hand was Rocky Curl. He and Foote Hospital Public Relations representative Robin Kirkpatrick announced the entries this year.
AMS Developers was on hand to photograph many of the floats and events as they headed toward Westwood Mall.
