For those of you who wish enjoy a peaceful evening of entertainment with the family, the Jackson Downtown Development Authority has just the ticket. And that ticket won"t cost you a dime.

It called VIBE@5 and runs every Friday night (except CRUISE NIGHTS) through the end of August. Unlike the CRUISE NIGHTS, VIBE@5 offers a bit more of a "laid back" atmosphere. The event runs between 5:00pm and 8:00pm at Bucky Harris Park and features a wide variety of musical groups ranging from Blues and Jazz, Swing, Reggie and Mexican.

The Queen of Hearts and I arrived at the July 13th show to see PUB DOMAIN. They are an Irish Celtic band. There were about two hundred people in attendance and all seemed to enjoy the relaxing harmonies and Irish atmosphere. There were even a few people dressed in Irish garb including a boy of about four proudly displaying his outfit. As the band played, many people got up to do an Irish jig, some knowing the steps as though they were second nature.

And the weather could not have be been better. The high for the day had reached 81 degrees, but it was a dry heat and a gentle breeze came in from the west. And one did not have to travel far for a snack or bite to eat. Local street vendors Ted and Ester Bennett of Bennett`s Hot Dogs had their stand present, as did the Time Capsule Museum.

After the performance, we headed to the Red Moose Inn a block away on Pearl Street. Owner Vic Young recently got an entertainment license and has been booking acts which you would not except to find at most local establishments, and there is no cover charge. Last week he had Debi Jordan.

We had gone in to check out LAID BACK, a two man group made up of Todd Johnston and Shane Barton, both guitar players. Their music ranges from Classic to New Rock and Country. They were quite good and we hope to see them perform again soon.

In addition to free summer family entertainment downtown every Friday evening, the DDA also sponsors PICNIC IN THE PARK, which takes place every Tuesday during the lunch hour and also features entertainment.
